2010

Maddie's second birthday, helped Eric rip off his old roof, photo shoot, picnic & hike, Fathers' Day with Bob & Diane, James drove up from LA, Lauren from Huntington Beach, and Corrina & Ron came from Harrisburg. So nice to see Maddie & Jackson, Kristin & Eric, et al.

To LA via Sacramento to visit James. LA Farmers' Market, the Getty, the Huntington, Ruthann and Roger, and an enjoyable meeting with David and Lara, James' UCLA neuroscience PhD program advisors.

On our way to LA we stopped to see Noah, Natasha, Morgan & Opal. Beautiful day, time on the beach, fun with kids, dinner, and conversation. Too short - but we'll see them all in July.

On June 10th, about 2:44 a sub pod of Orca whales (maybe 8) meandered through Pole Pass for the first time in 25 years. We observed them right at the pass. It was exciting. See other wildlife too.

Jen came up to Crane with Tim & Kelly, Matt & Kay, Harman & Jessica, and Irada. Cool, rainy but lots of food and conversation. Kelly & Tim stayed on to talk about their upcoming wedding.

Marcy & Paul, Julie & Cooper visited us from Colorado Springs. In Seattle we had a birthday brunch - where NNM&O and Jen joined us, Paul and Coop played golf while the rest visited the Nordic museum and the Locks. Jen hosted a meal and Ron came by. Paul flew back to work. On Crane, we had another birthday, walked, ate, visited and did trips to Eastsound and Friday Harbor and shuttled the Simrishamn back to Deer Harbor.

We very much enjoyed showing our world to the Colorado Springs contingent and they were good company.

Our 18th walk - 17 years. First to Boulder - fellowship and food with Ann & Dave, Barb & Dean, Tessa & Alan. And we saw Loren. To Sand Dunes with Alan & Tessa; then Chimayo - where Terri & Page (Spider & Stripe) joined us. Cold wind, warm hearts, more pilgrims than ever. A field trip to Elizabeth's studio. The Rancho restored after the fire and very tasty food. Earnest conversation, uproarious laughter. In Santa Fe we visited Yvonne's classmate, Deb and husband, Bart. And we were glad to get home to our little island.

Late in February, Yvonne and John took The Five down to the Central Coast to see Eric, Kristin, Jackson, and Maddie. After a winter of cool weather, clouds, and rain, it was a great pleasure to bask in the glow of the California sun - and our grandchildren and their parents. After three days in Los Osos, we caravaned to the Sierra Summit ski area, an hour east of Fresno and about four hours from Los Osos. At 7000' feet, it was snowy and cold. The kids enjoyed their first experience of snow and Jackson took a ski lesson. Eric and Kristin had a chance to ski together and Gramma and Grandpa had the pleasure of kid-sitting.

James (from LA) and Yvonne (from Crane) traveled to Cabo San Lucas to celebrate Rita and Jeff's wedding. Rita has been in Seattle for a few years now and is one of James' childhood friends from Boulder. Allision, the third of the trio, came from Colorado. Mary (Rita's mom) and Cathy (Allison's mom), good friends of Yvonne's, also came from Colorado and all had a great time together. John stayed in Seattle.

Sunrise, mountains, foggy marina, track emerging into the misty sunlight, flowers, work, rest - scenes from our Crane Island winter life.

We joined the celebration for Morgan and Opal's birthdays and had a wonderful time visiting. Morgan and Opal celebrated again on their real birthdays a bit later. After we left Noah and Morgan went to see Avatar and were amazed.

Outside on a balmy winter afternoon I saw the first signs of Spring in the garden. Yvonne

After Christmas in Seattle, James came back with us for a few days on Crane. Then back to Seattle for a day with NNM&O, Kiri up from Portland for New Year's Eve. Uncle Ron in Seattle too, art, movies (Avatar 3D), food, walking, shopping, and MORE! We had a great time in the NW's big city

Jeni hosted Yvonne and John, James, and Ron at her new apartment just up from the Seattle waterfront. We walked to the Public Market, shopped for Christmas Eve dinner, saw a movie, Jen cooked a great roast chicken dinner, and we did lots of visiting. A memorable Christmas.
